Recently, I worked on the Portsmouth Chinese New Year Extravaganza — a live cultural event held at the New Theatre Royal, celebrating Chinese culture through traditional and contemporary dance. The show brought together a wide range of performers and a full audience for an evening of movement, music, and colour.
As part of the production team, I operated the front-facing wide camera, capturing a continuous, stable shot of the full stage throughout the performance. I also monitored and recorded the event audio, ensuring clean, balanced sound for post-production.
It was a fast-paced, visually dynamic event and a great opportunity to contribute across both video and audio roles in a live, multi-camera setup. This project challenged me to stay focused, work collaboratively under pressure, and adapt quickly to the natural unpredictability of live performance. It reinforced the importance of timing, communication, and attention to detail when juggling multiple technical roles in a single event.
I’ve included a few behind-the-scenes photos from the production, which give a small glimpse into the energy and scale of the event.
